Hair weaves are a form of hair extensions that are bonded to your natural hair in some way, and the term is usually used interchangeably with the term “hair extension”. Whether you want a radical change in your hairstyle or you simply want healthier-looking, natural hair, hair weaves can help you achieve exactly the look you want. Here’s the what, how and why of hair weaves.
Types of Hair Weaves:
There are two main types, with further classification:
• Human Hair Weaves:
This is hair from humans who have decided to donate or sell their natural hair for some reason. There are many types of these, with Indian Remy hair being the highest quality. Other available hair extensions are European, Chinese, and hair of other Asian origins. Human hair looks very natural, but it might be harder to find a match for your exact hair type, and it is certainly more expensive.
• Synthetic Hair Weaves:
This is manufactured hair. It can possibly look less natural, and is more prone to styling damage, but the advantage is that it is available in greater variety of styles and color. Plus, it is cheaper.
Caring for Hair Weaves:
Once you choose the hair weave that is right for you, it is imperative that you care well for it. Otherwise, your hair weaves can end up looking unnatural or damaged, or they can start breaking and falling. Here are a few ways to prevent this:
• Never sleep with wet hair. Also, try to cover your hair with a satin scarf or sleep on a satin pillowcase.
• Condition your hair sufficiently to prevent dryness from setting in. this extends the life of your hair weaves and makes them look better for longer.
• Avoid over-styling your weaves. Make every effort to prevent styling and dyeing damage, as this can quickly dry out the weaves and make them look less natural.
