“Hair wefts” is a term you will come across very frequently if you are researching hair extensions. Hair wefts are basically a lot of strands of hair that are joined at the top. They are either hand-sewed/tied or machine-stitched to a single thin band. “Machine weft” means that a machine joined the top ends of the hair to the band.
Differences between Machine-made and Hand-made Hair Wefts:
• Machine wefts are stronger and longer lasting. They also shed less. Hand made wefts are weaker and combing or styling can make them shed more.
• Hand made wefts are thinner and they are less noticeable in your hair than machine wefts.
• Cutting hand-made hair wefts can result in unraveling of the strands, but with machine made wefts this is not a problem as the stitching is stronger.
• Hand made wefts can be made especially for your hair, suiting its exact color and texture, while with machine wefts your choice might be just a little restricted.
• Hand made wefts are often more expensive than machine made ones, but that would also depend on the quality and type of hair used.
Types of Hair Wefts:
Hair wefts differ according to the type of hair used in making the weft. Here are the major types of hair available in the market:
• Remi Wefts:
These are made of the highest quality virgin Indian Remy hair. Virgin means it is untreated and therefore free of chemical damage. The cuticles are unidirectional, making the hair tangle free. This hair is shiny and thin yet strong.
• Non-Remi Wefts:
These are available in various qualities. Most of these hair wefts have the cuticles shaved off. This prevents tangles but can cause the hair to be dry and brittle.
• Hair of Other Origins:
Chinese hair is a strong, thick and straight hair type. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to curl and style. European hair is a more popular type, being softer, thinner and smoother.
