I agree that anyone can make things bigger and complex, but has to make much larger efforts, and needs much greater courage in order to make things as simple as possible.

This is obvious as we consider physical objects. When first invented, the computer was as big as a building, and was so complex that only experts were able to handle it. And it would take no great effort or courage to make it still bigger and more complex, as it seemed.
Today, however, PCs can be placed on your desks or folded into briefcases, and are so simple and small that the kids can do a lot of things on it. And I believe that, to make the same thing so much smaller and simpler, and therefore to make so marvelous a contribution to science and human life in general, it must have required a much larger effort than it had to built the giant computer. And it must be an act of true courage even to imagine that a thing can be made so much smaller and simpler and yet do so much more work.
But that truth is still more impressive when it is about social entities and relationships.Many centuries ago, what is called today "the state" could be as small as the combination of a few villages, and the "government" was but a group of wise old men plus some brave young men as "soldiers" (which was the army). Then they were made increasingly big, until there were empires that extended into several continents. And things were made more complex: the government was composed of top, middle, small, and still smaller officials, working in hundreds of offices, the army had soldiers and officers given tens of ranks, and the people's obligation became so complex too that they had to do, besides paying tax, a hundred more things, all laid down in regulations and laws. And, practically, "anyone" was capable of this act of making things bigger and more complex, because many of the generals, kings, and emperors, all famous for such acts, were originally illiterate countryside rascals, green forest bandits, or beggars in the streets.
And this trend of making things bigger and more complex is not any less obvious today. Then it is sad to notice that some people, such as presidents and bosses of giant corporations, who are experts for making and handling complex human relationships, fail to prove able to manage their relationship with their children and wives, and therefore don't enjoy these simple relationships.
Why is it so difficult to make things as simple as possible? The answer; to do so it requires real effort and true courage. To be specific, it requires you to bravely say what you take true, do what you are willing to, and love what you really do. Or, it can be condensed into these: it is the effort and courage to face any truth and never tell the smallest lie. However, such effort and courage are not required in handling large and complex relationships. They are impossible in, say, the government and army, or between corporations. But anyone who fails to have this courage, or is unwilling to make such effort, will not be able to make human relationship as simple as one's relationship to one's wife and children-the simplest possible and best enjoyable on earth.
