Chinese is a dynamic language with over 50,000 characters, the 4 tones, pin yin and so much more that you will certainly need to learn. Do not worry you only need at a minimum 2,000 characters to suitably read a newspaper. Let's get off to a smart start, great start.
How can we get started discovering Chinese the expert way?
1. Get a do-it -yourself course: a home course that is ideally portable in an audio format such as mp3. Having a course that you own will allow you to study Chinese whenever and wherever you want at any time.
2. Internet: The internet is filled with great resources to "practice" Chinese. This is by no means a substitute for studying Chinese in a class though and will not offer you the chance for feed-back from the aid provided by a course. Having said that, any practice is beneficial practice. So, check out Chinese discussion boards, pay a great deal of attention to magazines and newspapers to learn up to date Chinese and get at least 1 pen pal.
3. Tools of the trade: Learn to make wise use of publications such as magazines and newspapers to broaden and keep your vocabulary fresh and up to date
4. Practice Tips: Found a hot suggestion to study Chinese? use that tip! For instance a great tip is to learn to stretch your voice by singing a few notes so that you will be better able to vocalize the challenging "four tones."
The advantage is yours if you start learning Chinese with a native speaker by finding one on the Internet as a pen pal or at your local Chinese business. Native speakers are a pot of gold waiting for you and they will teach you words that are often not found in a book or course as well as teach you the subtle innuendos of proper pronunciation that are critical to learning Chinese. Confused about how to say something? Try asking them!!
Understanding Chinese is quite exceptional. Your colleagues will be amazed that you are learning such a challenging language. Think about the incredible fact that you can instantly communicate with a billion more people than anyone else, journey to China and speak competently and impress your peers.
Now you can learn Chinese fast and savvy. Practice studying two or more words a day and you will know in a year more than 700 words and half way there to knowing the 2,000 plus characters to read a newspaper. Have fun!
