Stephen Daldry’s production of 'An Inspector Calls’ by J B Priestley has become something of a theatrical institution. The Daily Telegraph described it as “The defining production of the 1990s, a work of great directorial daring, breathtaking visual invention and passionate moral urgency.” It takes what is a traditional drawing room drama and sets it in the rain lashed streets of an industrial town. The mysterious Inspector Goole’s visit to the Birlings’ house party takes on new resonances and heightened drama yet still seems to faithfully covey Priestley’s political messages. It is no surprise that that there is still such a demand for theatre tickets for this show.

The play has toured for many years since the original production which was staged at the National Theatre. In fact it toured the UK for the first half of 2009. There was an unexpected gap to fill at the Novello Theatres and the production stepped in for a short run. Such has been its success once again that it is currently selling theatre tickets for performances up until 20th March at Wyndham’s Theatre.
