Two of British theatre’s most prolific creatives will shortly be joining forces at the National Theatre where Michael Grandage will direct a new version of 'Danton’s Death’ by Howard Brenton. It promises to be one of the hottest theatre tickets of the summer.

Michael Grandage has been winning awards for fun as artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse. He helmed the 12 month season at Wyndhams as well as continuing to oversee the output of the Covent Garden based theatre. He will once again be breaking new ground this year when the Donmar presents new productions at the Trafalgar Studios directed by some of the best young directors that have worked at the Donmar including Christopher Rolls taking charge of Cocteau’s 'Les Parents Terribles’. If it is as good as his version of 'The Beaver Coat’ at the Finborough a few years back, it promises to be a treat.
The National Theatre has continued to build relationships with other theatres in London and across the country and this first production for Grandage at the South Bank seems to come from the same thinking that gave us the Royal Court’s former artistic director, Ian Rickson directing a fantastic version of Pinter’s 'The Hothouse’.
The National also ensures they provide a platform for the very best writers and Howard Brenton is certainly one of those. Now armed with a bus pass, he is still producing some of the best work around and is as popular as ever. This year will see another new work, 'Anne Boelyn’ produced at Shakespeare’s Globe. Recent years have seen fantastic revivals of his earlier work including a five star production of 'Christie in Love’ last November.
