Having this extra space will also avoid putting too much pressure on the child's feet. Similarly, the skin on children's feet is not as tough at adults' skin and so it can be much more sensitive.
School shoes are often more formal than casual shoes or sandals so make extra sure that they are not too tight or too rigid to allow the children's feet to move and grow properly. Whereas adults can easily identify the source of discomfort in their shoes or take action, children are naturally less articulate and might often complain generally that their shoes hurt or they will simply refuse to wear them. Listening carefully when your children talk about their footwear is important. Ask them to point to exactly what is uncomfortable. Examine their feet for any redness or tenderness that could indicate where the problem could be, if they don't point to it themselves.
